As a designer, I developed a signature process to help my clients understand and articulate the personality and value system of their brands.

Through a series of quickfire exercises (because I don’t mess around, and neither do you), we’d identify things like…

  • Who your ideal customers are, what they care about, and why they love you so much
  • What your clients and colleagues value about you and the work you do
  • How you want to be seen in your industry (and whether or not it squares with how you actually ARE seen

When you know these things, you can start pulling everything together because your brand is key to a successful business.

And to build an effective, memorable brand, you need to understand a few key principles:

  1. You are not your brand, and vice versa. Your brand personality will be slightly different from your everyday-human personality.
  2. Your brand is not FOR you (or even about you, really)—it’s for your CUSTOMER.
  3. What you think is “pretty” or “cool” is not necessarily what’s right for your brand.
